THEY HAVE PRESENTED ONLY A CONCEPTUAL PLAN FOR THE DATA CENTER COMPLEX. NOTE THAT THE M1 ZONING CLASSIFICATION IS NOT SPECIFICALLY FOR DATA CENTERS. IN FACT, DATA CENTERS HAVE ONLY RECENTLY BEEN ADDED TO THE LONG LIST OF USES ALLOWED IN A LIGHT INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT SITE. YOU RECENTLY WITNESSED THE GROUNDBREAKING FOR THE NEW CASINO AND HOTEL PROJECT, AND NOW THE DATA CENTER. THIS PROJECT MAKES IT A TRIFECTA FOR THE CITY. YOU'VE GOT IT ALL. THE CHANGE THAT WILL OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THE DATA CENTER BEING DEVELOPED AND OPERATING, WILL CHANGE THE CITY FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. WHAT THE DATA CENTER MEANS FOR THE CITY IS A VERY LARGE INCREASE IN REAL ESTATE TAXES AND MACHINERY TAX REVENUES THAT COULD BE USED BY THE CITY FOR WHATEVER IT WANTS TO USE IT FOR, FOR SUCH THINGS AS IMPROVEMENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND REPLACING AGING INFRASTRUCTURE. THE DEVELOPMENT WILL TRANSFORM AN UNDERUTILIZED, TAX EXEMPT, CITY OWNED PROPERTY INTO A REVENUE GENERATING DYNAMO, CONTRIBUTING SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE CITY'S TAX BASE WITHOUT PLACING ADDITIONAL BURDENS ON PUBLIC SERVICES. I PURCHASED THE BUILDING FROM SOMEBODY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN JAIL FOR WHAT THEY DID.
WITH THE AGREEMENT THAT I HAD WITH THE CITY MANAGER AT THE TIME, THAT I WOULD TAKE THE BUILDING DOWN WITHIN 30 DAYS. THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE ABOUT TWO WEEKS TO GET THE BUILDING DOWN. IT LITERALLY CAME DOWN IN 15 MINUTES WHEN HE JUST TOOK THE TOOTH OF HIS MACHINE AND PULLED THE BRICK TO SEE HOW LOOSE IT WAS. THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE BUILDING COLLAPSED IN ONE SHOT, AND THAT'S BECAUSE A CITY BUILDING INSPECTOR IN RICHMOND OWNED THE BUILDING HERE IN PETERSBURG, AND KEPT LYING TO THE JUDGE, AND THE JUDGE KEPT GIVING THEM MORE TIME. WE'VE GOT TO STOP THAT. AND LIKE COUNCILMAN HILL SAID, WE WANT TO IMPROVE THE IMAGE OF THE CITY, AND THIS IS THE WAY WE'RE GOING TO DO IT, WHEN WE CAN ACTUALLY HAVE THESE FINES. I KNOW SOCIAL SERVICES WILL WILL EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO HELP OUT AND GET SOME MONEY AS WELL, BUT WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF OUR YOUTH AS MANY OF US WILL ADVOCATE FOR. THE YOUTH ARE THE FUTURE AND WE WANT THEM TO FEEL APPRECIATED. SO FIRST OF ALL, I'D LIKE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S A SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR THE OLDER YOUTH OF THE CITY THAT STARTS ON JUNE 17TH. THAT, I THINK IS GOING TO GIVE VALUABLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR HOMEGROWN LEADERS OF TOMORROW TO GAIN PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE CITY'S FUTURE SO THEY CAN START HAVING THAT CITY PRIDE AS WELL AS WELL. BASEBALL GAMES ARE STARTING TO GET GOING, AS WELL AS MANY EVENTS ARE GOING ON AT THE SPORTS COMPLEX THROUGH LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS THAT HE IS DOING. SO THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT MR.
